My convention experience is based solely in the state of Oklahoma where the nerd population is small enough that every convention quickly falls to a generalized Nerd-Con, no matter the original intent. I thought surely that a convention labeled so specifically as a “Gaming Expo” would be governed the same rule but I was most certainly wrong. The TORG Gaming Expo was almost exactly as advertised with vendors selling everything from Japanese NES cartridges to special edition XBOX 360 consoles still in their original box, some of which were even at reasonable prices!
Certainly a shoutout to the 405th Infantry Division, Ohio’s local Spartan detachment who played a large part in my pictures and the Expo as a whole with a large part of the events happening with them at the center. The 405th put on great shows as well, from live speed runs to cosplay armor building competitions there was always something enjoyable to watch when we would wander back to their neck of the hall.
My favorite cosplay (fully admitting my bias as a huge Gundam fan) was the person dressed as Char Aznable. Not only did they have an amazing cosplay of a personally beloved character, but they also gave my husband and I matching bracelets that read “Team Char” which we haven’t taken off since.
Overall the convention was lovely with a large selection of vendors, lots of great food offered at the venue, plenty of friendly people, and great events to keep anyone entertained.
